Salle d'Armes la Ronceray
Salle d'Armes La Roncerai takes its name from the ground
in France where a vision of the Blessed Virgin appeared in the C.15. A statue was made in her honour.
Some time later the Chateaux & Chapel were built and the statue, which by then had become overgrown
with brambles, was seen to have blood where it was scratched by the thorns. Hence the name for the Chateaux & the
Salle d'Armes. La Roncerai is translated into English as 'The Bramble Patch'.
The club SLR is intimate in nature and welcomes beginners and intermediates. It is likely that
top level fencers will be restless with the field. SLR has a dozen fencers from middle age to young
adults and a keen junior section.
There are two electric 'pistes', one of which is for Epee only, the pistes are not marked nor earthed
as we use a dance studio. We are permitted a small permanent armoury & have kit to run beginners clases
for 10.
The atmosphere of the club is quite social & studious & we aspire to achieve a recognised professional
standard.
