Suggestions for trainee coaches.
Although in the UK there are a number of different syllabi, coach education bodies and some debate as to what is best; & whilst it cannot be disputed that this makes the learning path somewhat disorientating it should be understood that all coach education is beneficial. It is the task of the student to remove obstacles. In Britain, for sociological reasons we do not have the luxury of a residential elite fencing masters programme.. the nature of the sport is mostly amateur hence we cannot expect the types of programme as those under the Chinese or ex Soviet republics, or states ( such as France ) wherein it has always enjoyed historical popularity.
It is good to know that in Hungary for example there is almost no ‘ hobby fencing ‘ ( for adults ), and that G.B is highly placed in the global results for veteran fencing. Aspiring Professional coaches are encouraged to train overseas if they do not have the good luck to be able to study under a coach who has international results.
